Health and Safety

The Group is still very active and involved with projects for the 2010 Soccer World Cup and maintains a positive influence on the safety and health of its employees. WBHO assisted in the draft of the Construction regulations (OHS Act 85 of 1993), which is due for promulgation soon. Clients, Designers and Sub-contractors all actively participating in safety, health and environmental issues to ensure compliance to the Regulations. WBHO is also assisting and upgrading the safety of our sub-contractors working on WBHO contracts.

The group is confident that the requirements of the OHS Act have been met and strives to maintain a high level of safety and health of its employees and sub-contractors on various projects. High rated external audits and Client audits confirm our high standards of safety.

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICY

Description of Organisation

WBHO is primarily a construction company conducting business in the civil, building, roads, earthworks and mining sectors.


1.         Policy

Management regards the Health & Safety of employees and persons being affected by our operations to be of vital importance.  Our primary objective is therefore to:  “Achieve and maintain the highest practicable level of Health and Safety control in all areas of the Company’s operations.”

To this end the Company will ensure that:

1.1       Matters affecting Health and Safety are accorded high priority. 
1.2       Adequate precautions are taken to prevent injuries, incidents and damage.

1.3       The provisions of all relevant legislation as well as the Health & Safety Management System are complied with.

2.         Occupational Health and Safety Objectives.  

To achieve our goals it is necessary to:

2.1       Train our employees in Occupational Health and Safety issues so as to,
-           ensure competence in the workplace.
-           be aware of the potential hazards implicit in their work activities,
-           be aware of their scope of authority in terms of Occupational Health and Safety control.
2.2       Manage Occupational Health & Safety to acceptable standards.
2.3       Enforce Health & Safety measures with discipline in the workplace.
2.4       Protect the public and persons other than Company employees from Health and Safety hazards associated with our work.


3.         Responsibilities

3.1       Achievement of these objectives is and will be the responsibility of all management structures.
3.2       Duties will further be assigned to Company personnel with the aim of managing Safety, Health and Environmental procedures.
3.3       The commitment of Management and Employees to these objectives will ensure high standards of Occupational Health & Safety control.

 

The Company achieved the following results during the year ending June 2010. The challenge remains to reduce these numbers even further and with an intensified safety and health training programme WBHO remains confident that the next round of targets will be met.
