ALRODE MALTING PLANT
South African Breweries invested in a new state of the art maltings plant located in Alrode, Alberton. At the time of project handover, this maltings plant was not only a first of its kind in Africa, but also the largest in Africa and third largest in the world. This mega project saw the congregation of a multicultural design and construction team that saw SAB also working closely with Malteurope and Hatch Goba. WBHO was appointed to carry out all civil and building works on the project. The construction phase saw an excess of 13 000 cubic meters of structural concrete placed, and consisted of 6 500sqm of formwork to bases and ground beams, 10 000sqm of horizontal formwork and 30 000sqm of vertical formwork. 5 tower cranes were erected on site, strategically placed to ensure that all areas of the site were covered and wall formwork could be placed and removed from all locations.
