GROOTEGELUK LOUD OUT SILO
SILOS & TOWERS
This was a multi-disciplinary project; the scope consisted of the following civil works: a 53m high, 3 500 ton Load out Silo, which is separated into three sections by a rail slab, diaphragm slab and roof slab. A Hydraulic and Control room is situated below the diaphragm slab. The Silo roof slab was originally designed as a cast in-situ slab on support work. This was changed to a precast roof slab designed and constructed by WBHO. The civil works also included 6 feed and collecting conveyors and de-watering screens, 1 of the 6 conveyors is a Trestle Conveyor, which have 4 Trestles, the shortest Trestle is 25m and the tallest is 47m. These trestles were also slip-formed by WBHO. Road works consist of 6 concrete pavement roads, building works that consist of two electrical substations and an ablution block, storm water channels, sewerage system and water supply.
