N1 WINBERG

The N1 Winburg was the rehabilitation and upgrading of a dual carriage way of a 12km section of the N1 route past Winburg from KM 77.5 to KM89.8. Construction of the new North bound carriage way was constructed up to the 40mm polymer modified (A-P1) coarse grade asphalt level after which the traffic had been diverted onto the new carriage way. Works continued on the rehabilitation of the old existing carriage way which included; mill existing surface to stockpile, mill and recycle base layer and construct 300mm cement stabilized subbase, new 1550mm G1 layer, 40mm polymer modified coarse grade asphalt, 20mm UTFC. Once rehabilitation works was completed, traffic was diverted back onto the old South bound carriage way in order to complete the UTFC on the new North bound carriageway. In addition works include the extention of 49 storm water crossings, the extention of four new insitu culverts and the construction of a new rail bridge.
