N6 SMITHFIELD TO ROUXVILLE
ROAD CONSTRUCTION & REHABILITATION
The 37km of rehabilitation, is located in the Free State Province which falls within the Xhariep District Municipality. The limits of the construction work on the National Route, Section 6, stretches from the South of Rouxville (33.177 KM) to the South of Smithfield (70.360 km). During the rehabilitation phase of the project, works included the strengthening of the pavement layers, widening of the surface cross sections, the construction of passing lanes, vertical realignments, widening and replacing of minor and major drainage structures. This also included providing street lighting along the Rouxville location Roleleathunya. The National Route crosses a major river that is well known as Caledon River and numerous streams and tributaries. During the construction phase of the rehabilitation, two large culverts were completely replaced, where in turn the Caledon River Bridge would be widened.
