NORTH SOUTH CARRIER PALAPYE TO PIKWE
PIPELINES (OIL, GAS, WATER) & OTHER INFRASTRUCTURE
In June 2012, the Botswana Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources awarded CCC/WBHO Joint Venture the EPC Turnkey contract to construct the North South Carrier 2 Water Transfer Project. The project involved the construction of an 89 kilometer long, 1 200mm diameter pipeline from Selebi Pikwe in the north to Palapye in the South. The pipeline is required to supplement water supply to urban, rural and industrial developments within Eastern Botswana. The complete system included the construction of two 30 ML concrete reservoirs, one concrete Feeder Tank, approximately 40 000 cubic meters of concrete was placed in structures and chambers along the route. A multi level pump station was designed and constructed to house three pumps which are required to feed the pipeline scheme, absorbing 5 880Kw of power. Its construction included 6 021 cubic meters of excavation, 932 cubic meters of concrete and 57 tons of structural steel. A gravel maintenance road with associated stormwater structures was also required to service the project. Approximately 6 100cubic meters of concrete to drifts was cast. The system is fully automated and thus a fully comprehensive telemetry and SCADA network was installed to support and control the infrastructure.
