The construction of new 4-cell TSF facility with associated return water system for Orapa Diamond Mine, Botswana. The Orapa Fines Residue Disposal project is a Debswana (Client) undertaking for the construction of a containment facility of residual (slimes) material generated from the processing of diamonds, as well as the associated return water network to ensure process water recovery back to the process plant. The FRD project is to ensure availability sufficient storage capacity to continue processing 14.8 million tonnes per annum of ore material until Life Of Mine (year 2050). Kalcon (Pty) Ltd entered into a 70:30 joint venture with Local Citizen Company, with Kalcon (Pty) Ltd as the lead partner. The scope of work consisted of approximately 600Ha Bush clearing prior to the construction of a 4-cell dam complex involving a total of 6 000 000 cubic meters cut to fill. The drainage /return water system consisted of 4 x 15m high concrete penstock, 900mm diameter concrete pipe and 8 000m trapezoidal concrete lined drain with a total of 22 000 cubic meters reinforced concrete.
